Joseph Frank Brigandi (Joe), 79, of Kensington, husband of Barbara Brigandi, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain, CT.
Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Charles Stoetzner Brigandi and Helen (Gorecki) Brigandi. Joe was a New Britain resident before moving to Kensington in 1973. He was a U.S. Army 3 rd Armored Division Veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was formerly employed as a chief electrician at CL&P, and a construction inspector at Terracon where he spent many years testing and inspecting new construction at UCONN. Joe attended Trinity Methodist Church in New Britain where he sang in the church choir, ushered, and was a Sunday school teacher. He later attended Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin and enjoyed his time as a member of the Travelin’ Prayer Musical Ensemble. A former cub scout pack leader, Joe enjoyed reading, history, and sharing what he had learned with everyone around him. He enjoyed camping in Vermont with his family, vacationing in Cape Cod with his wife and grandchildren, and spending any time he could with family and friends. Throughout his life, he was passionate about helping others, providing comfort, a laugh, and a smile. As his own health began to decline, he was a clinical research patient at Yale New Haven Hospital and for many years participated in a support group for interstitial lung diseases.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara (Swain) Brigandi; three loving children, Kevin Brigandi and his wife Susan of Colchester; Kristin (Brigandi) Matika and her husband Dave of Beacon Falls, Mark Brigandi and his wife Allison of Kensington; and two adoring grandchildren, Nathan and Sarah Brigandi who were the light of his life; and 5 step-grandchildren Alex, Emily, Zachary, Jacob, and Michael.
